although, though 屬於連詞 although though都用於引導名詞性從句和狀語從句，屬於從屬連詞，只是although的語氣更強一些。though 可以和 even 連用 構成 even though 起強調作用，一般是用於條件狀語從句。兩者都可以用在句首和句中。
despite 則屬於介詞，表示讓步。下面分別舉例加以說明
they are genurous although they are poor. (儘管他們窮，但是大方。）這個語氣比though更強烈。
he knows english perfectly though he has never been to england. (他通曉英語，雖然他從來沒去過英國）這個語氣，如果換上although 的話，顯然強調的語氣加重。
he came to the meeting dispite his illness.(儘管生病，但是他還是來參加會議）本來生病是不應該來開會的，但是他還是來了，這就是一種讓步。

though和although在意義上幾乎毫無區別，但文體上後者是較正式用詞，語氣比though強。此外，在習慣用法上這兩個詞仍有以下一些差異：1.
though可引出倒裝語序的讓步狀語從句，although 則不能。2.though可與even連用，although則不能；在as though結構中，只用though，不能用although。
3.though可以置於從句末，而although則不能。4.
引出省略句時，通常用though。
despite： 書面用詞，指不受某事或某種原因的阻礙。
例如一下的對比你可以看到這點差異：
despite increasing physical frailty, he continued to write stories. 儘管身體越來越虛弱，他仍然繼續寫**。
這裡說明的是：身體虛弱本來會阻止他的工作，但是他仍然在工作。
although my car is very old, it'still runs very well. 我的汽車雖然很舊，但仍然跑得很快。
這裡說明的是，我的舊車可以跑的很快，但是就本質來說，車舊不一定就跑不快，只要保養的好。也就是說車舊這個前提並不能稱為「阻止」車跑得快的理由。
